Why is Link Building Important in SEO?

Link building is very crucial for every SEO campaign. Most newbie in this industry does not much knowledge about “link building”. So let’s start it off!

What is link building?
Link building is the process of getting hyperlinks from others web pages to your own landing page. Link building is also used to increase links towards your own web page. Search engines use links to crawl web pages across the internet. Link building is the hardest part to get mastery on it but if you do have perfection to do so; you can knock out other competitors.


Understanding Links in terms of Search Engines
Search engines use links to find out new web pages and decide how well this web page should rank in search engine results. The search engine can extract the content of pages and index them. For deciding certain keywords of web pages, search engines do not just look at the content of a page but also links pointing from external high-quality websites. In the late 1990s, Larry Page (Google’s founder) invented PageRank to gauge the quality of a page by numbers of links pointing to it. After that this metric was, extremely effective, included in the ranking algorithm.

In past years links submit in web directories was very effective for ranking in search engine but today it is not a beneficiary technique to build links to web pages. Google has penalized those websites that overuse this technique in link building.
 Now links play a very instrumental role in success or failure of any SEO campaign. There are two things you should come in mind while launching any white hat link building campaign is that your focus totally on building quality links. In the past years, building massively low-quality links are produce to a success of link building campaign but now you should prioritize quality links rather than quantity links.

Importance of Nofollow Attribute
You need to understand “no follow” tag before starting a link building campaign. “no follow” tag means that It says Google does not transfer any page rank from this web page to target URL. 
The structure of “no follow” tag looks like this:
<a href="http://www.aaa.com" rel="no follow">aaa</a>
Many webmasters use no follow tag to protect the vote of confidence for specified links. There are plenty of users want to link to your website and you have to control it by using the nofollow tag. There is some example below in which no follow tag can be used:
